Poor Julie 1

From Janus 31
This comic strip ran in Janus for 17 episodes, telling the heart-breaking story of poor Julie and her trials and tribulations at the hands of her “uncle” and his cohorts. It is by Baldur Grimm (a.k.a. Erich von Gotha, both pseudonyms of the illustrator Robin Ray) who is a master at drawing beautiful put-upon innocents.

  1. Superb artwork. This strip was always one of the highlights in the issues of Janus through which it ran. Interesting re. your identification of the artist; I'd always just assumed it was Hardcastle. Thank you, Fleas, and I, for one, would welcome further 'Poor Julie' posts.

  2. I think the words 'cock-stiffening' would be a more accurate description of the story than 'heart-breaking'.
